Cosmetic Injections Part 1: Neurotoxins
Over the years, repeated facial expressions such as squinting and frowning can create what are referred to as “dynamic lines.” As your skin ages and loses its elasticity, those lines that used to promptly disappear often become persistent or even etched. Some areas where dynamic lines commonly form are between the eyebrows (“frown lines” or “elevens”), horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
Neurotoxins (brand names: Xeomin, Botox, & Dysport) relax the muscles that create certain dynamic lines. The result is a temporary smoothing of the lines and a more rested appearance. An added benefit is that, with continued treatments, it is often possible to prevent the formation or worsening of certain dynamic lines!
Using advanced injection techniques, it is possible to do even more than simply smooth lines. Certain asymmetries or features that are caused by muscle movement can be temporarily improved. For example, neurotoxins may be used to elevate the eyebrows, turn-up the corners of the mouth, or even create a slight lift of the upper lip.
Here’s a quick list of some of the most common (and fun!) neurotoxin treatments:
“Frown lines” or “elevens” between the eyebrows ß the most popular area to treat
Horizontal forehead lines
Crow’s feet around eyes
Eyebrow lift
Bag/jellyroll beneath the eyes
“Bunny lines” on the sides of nose
Lip lift
“Smoker’s lines” (non-smokers get them too!)
Cobblestone chin or deep crease
Down-turned corners of the mouth
Vertical neck bands (Click here for more information on treatments for your neck).
