Maintenance for men - it's more than "bro-tox"

The old stigma associated with men undergoing aesthetic treatments is long gone. I can personally assure you that, even in Louisville, KY, men are seeking out and having these treatments! More than ever, there is pressure for men to maintain or improve their appearances. Why? Each man has his own reasons, but here are some I hear most frequently:

Competition in the workplace

To boost their confidence

His partner/spouse suggested it

A desire to look and feel one’s best at any stage of life

Because they can!

Despite the obvious benefits to men, there are a few reasons they might forgo exploring aesthetic treatments available to them. The most common reasons I hear (once they’re on the treatment table, mind you) are:

Fear of the unknown - This is understandable. I hear this from both male & female clients. Prior to a treatment, clients undergo a thorough consultation. We can discuss treatments, what to expect, & make sure there are no surprises.

Perceived stigma of having treatments – Trust me. Men are definitely coming in and having these treatments! They’re just far less likely to publicize the fact to their friends, co-workers, etc. Regardless, clients do appreciate the privacy of my studio & policy of strict confidentiality.

Fear of looking feminine – Frankly, this is a valid concern if your provider is unaccustomed to treating male clients. The male aesthetic is quite different and the necessity of a natural, masculine look cannot be emphasized enough. Imagine looking into the mirror and you have the eyebrows or lips of a woman – Yikes!

Turned off by “froo-froo” – This is an easy one to avoid because I don’t like froo-froo either! I am results-oriented to the max. I have no steamer, mud masks, or cucumber slices for puffy eyelids.

Too busy - See above. I am focused on results. I customize treatments for clients so that they’ll achieve the best results, making both of us happy. Most men want something simple and, fortunately, there are a lot of ways for me to do that. Also, I offer flexible scheduling.

Here are some of the most common treatments for men:

Neurotoxins [Xeomin®, Botox®, Dysport®] to soften lines & help one appear more rested & relaxed (NOT frozen). The most common area is the frown lines (“elevens” between eyebrows) followed by horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet around eyes, and vertical neck bands (platysmal bands).

Skin Perfecting - Let’s face it. Most men have skin imperfections such as skin tags. Even if a significant other (or a mom) hasn’t said anything, believe me, they’ve noticed. Why not quickly zap them away? With this instrument, I can eradicate a slew of other skin imperfections as well.
