Have you tried Xeomin® yet? I’ve been a huge fan of it for quite some time now. Like Botox®, Xeomin® is simply a brand-name of injectable botulinum toxin that can be used to help relax muscles & reduce the appearance of certain lines & wrinkles. Both are injected in the same manner, require the same amount of product, & have been shown in clinical trials (and my personal & clinical experience) to have similar efficacy & duration of effects. One potential advantage of Xeomin® is that it undergoes a special purification process. This proprietary process removes "accessory proteins" (proteins that have no active role in treatment), giving it the unique distinction of being able to refer to itself as a "highly purified neurotoxin." Finally while I do not think cost should be a primary factor in product selection, it certainly doesn’t hurt that the price point is lower with Xeomin®.
Not surprisingly, there has been a very heated battle between the different manufacturers – each wanting to claim superiority over the others. Xeomin® had been the most recent target, despite having undergone the requisite clinical trials & obtaining FDA-approval way back in 2011. To hopefully end the debate, another clinical trial was performed directly comparing Xeomin® to Botox®. The findings, just released last week, revealed similar efficacy & duration between the two products – simply put, neither product was proven to be superior* [click below for the details of the study]. What’s yet to be seen is whether Xeomin®’s purification process will eventually be shown to have beneficial effects that do set it apart or whether it’s just a nice way to avoid getting something we don’t really need. Regardless, Xeomin® is a great, effective product for facial rejuvenation.
What does this mean for you? Well, if you’ve had Botox® in the past & espouse the, “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” mentality, let’s keep using Botox® for you. If you’re a newbie to injections or are interested in switching, let's discuss whether Xeomin® might be the best choice for you.
